Attention Dancers:  “Winter Gypsies” February 25, 2012 Workshops are now open for registration!

        1. “Rock, Roll, and Undulate” with Alia – 1 Hour Workshop, 12pm – 1pm $25

Alia teaches how to use body rocks and foot patterns to create a variety of mesmerizing traveling undulating movements.

        2. Veil Choreography to “Unda” with Lorelei – 1 Hour Workshop, 1pm-2pm $25

Learn the choreo and dance it in the show! Perfect for “Flash-Mob” bellydance – i.e., because it starts slow and ends slow, so it is very easy to start with one dancer, have a whole bunch join in, and then fade away to one or none.  Perfect if you have a source of music and can just appear, dance, and disappear within 6 minutes. This choreography by Black Dragon Bellydance contains elements of Vintage Oriental, Turkish, and ITS/ATS Tribal.  Bring a veil.

        3. ATS® with Irene of Barajagala – 1 ½ Hour Workshop, 2pm – 3:30pm, $30

This workshop is designed for people who have some Bellydance experience, who at least know how to do a taxin (figure 8) and hip bumps. This will be an ATS workshop where Irene will go over some fast and slow moves; some of the steps will be Level 2 moves. In the last 1/2 hour Irene will teach the ATS dance format and have students dancing in groups.

        4. Vintage Belly Dance Combos with Alexia – 1 ½ Hour Workshop, 3:30pm – 5pm, $30

This is a great class for all styles of belly dance - Cabaret, Tribal and beyond. Get to know your American belly dance history and an amazing catalog of "steps" and technique to kick your dance into high gear.   We’ll explore a variety of movements based on the Jamila Salimpour Belly Dance Format beyond those adapted for American Tribal Belly Dance. Learn five exciting combos to put it all into action. Expand your vocabulary!

        About The Jamila Salimpour Format:

Jamila Salimpour is the originator of tribal belly dance in America. She is also the first one to solidify a format of terminology in belly dance still used today. Her format is taught and applied to dancers' movements worldwide. Jamila’s format includes a very large catalog of movements derived from the nightclub dancers of the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s.
